Weekending
It was the sort of weekend that made me sit down after the kids were in bed, thinking that the day was a good one, but this – this time right after they go to bed and the house is quiet – this is my most favorite time of all. Without too many thoughts of all the shoulda, woulda, coulda swirling in my head. Quiet time with just enough chill in the air to want a blanket on my lap and appreciate looking forward to the next day of no one needing to go to work, nothing except dinner with family on the agenda and the promise of beautiful weather. We’re past the September mid-point and securely into my favorite season – cool air, pumpkins, apples, my birthday, the general promise of holidays and Halloween and Thanksgiving not so far away.

This weekend: a community carnival that was just the right size – just a few games and rides and a treats without overwhelming anyone, a new goldfish won in a carnival game, the start of the struggle to get coats and socks on to leave the house, an early morning trip for a fishbowl when it was cold enough to need to sit and let the car defrost for a few minutes before we could drive, cinnamon rolls and scrambled eggs for Sunday morning breakfast, mugs of coffee as much to drink as to warm my hands, Pumpkin.Spice.Coffee, leaves blowing and swirling, tights on her sweet legs, candy corn in a jar, the kids laughing at me putting on shoes(instead of flip flps) for the first time in months. It was a good one, how was yours?
