In Search of Summer: June 9

June 9, 2010

It’s the last day of In Search of Summer and we’re going out with a lull of sorts. It’s only supposed to be in the 60s and rainy. We also have water leaking from the bathroom down into the kitchen, so we had to cancel our plans for friends to come over and play.  I’ve been wanting a new bathroom floor anyway, though, so it sort of works out in our favor.

The thing about summer, though, is that even with temperatures in the 60s and raining, it’s still kind of completely lovely. Birds are chirping. Windows are open. It feels novel to wear pjs and comfy clothes after a few weeks of heat. We’re going to spend way too much time watching movies today and maybe doing some baking. We’ve been spending so much time outside lately that the things we normally do inside will be a bit more exciting again. I love that. It’s the reason that my favorite times of year are the in-between seasons. I love to see the changes happen and listen and watch as everyone looks forward to the little things that are on the way.

So, we’re thankful for a day to slow down. We rented a movie(little tip – if you have redbox nearby, search for codes for free rentals – they’re always out there!), got some yummy blueberries and grapes and cheese, pulled out our coziest blanket for snuggling on the couch. {Sidenote – speaking of couches – I *NEED* a blue velvet couch like the one in this house crash. Mark my words. When we get new furniture in 100 years, we WILL get a blue velvet couch! And their light-filled bathroom with the fantastic tiles, please. I definitely think we’re doing some sort of hexagon tiles if we need to replace the bathroom flooring.} We got down the rainbow rice and we’ll definitely be headed outside at some point to run under an umbrella and have a reason to get out the raincoats.

I’m making a pot of coffee, throwing in a load of laundry and dishes so that I can relax and snuggle with my kids for the day.

Happy Summer everyone!
