Welcome to Fall

September 21, 2010

I woke up this morning with windows open and a chill in the air and I didn’t want to get up. I was so cozy and warm, but at the same time I find myself looking forward to these crisp days so much.

The days when we can go outside any time. The days when we all have a hoodie handy at all times for quick changes in temperature. The days when I’m driving and suddenly realize that not only have the cornstalks all changed to golden, but some of them are already gone – harvested and baled and ready for the cold. The days when I begin to realize that the sun isn’t up quiet so early anymore and when I leave work late in the evening expecting it to still be light and I’m greeted by complete darkness.

Pumpkin patches and hayrides and corn mazes and applesauce and muffin and bread making and hot cups of tea.

I love that the slowing coincides with the time of year that I enjoy most and the time of year when I seem to appreciate and savor every morsel of life. I need it right now and I love that I can share this with my children – the changes in light and temperature and seasons and rhythms.

We are busy right now, but the gentle slowness that is creeping into everything is doing something so soothing for my soul. It’s making this time of transition, both seasonally and in our family life, work together more smoothly than I ever could have asked for. Today, I am so grateful for that.

oh, beautiful! I am nostalgic for some fall weather – I live in a year -round tropical environment and we are in the middle of our rainy season, so it’s very different! Enjoy the crisp air, pumpkins and hoodies!
