Over the Weekend

October 11, 2010

Friday night, we started at the pumpkin patch.

…and finished with a date night. Friday nights don’t get much better than that.

Then, I worked {a lot.} We got the yummiest Pumpkin Spice coffee ever. I’ve had more than my fair share with lots of cream and sugar. We are still struggling to figure out the balance of switching roles as caregivers/the-one-going-to-work for longer chunks of time. This weekend especially, we struggled, but we saw even more good come from it. I’m easing into it better than I ever imagined I’d be able to and that gives me peace in so many ways. He struggled with full days and came out on the other side with even more determination to be the parent he wants to be. I woke up today with a refreshed feeling and a new perspective and appreciation for my normally mundane days.

We got out Halloween decorations out and went for drives and walks to hunt for pumpkins and Jack-O-Lanterns and the giddiness is unending. I’m not sure how she’ll actually make it to the end of the month without bursting. And that’s just to get to Halloween – she’s also already bursting with excitement for Christmas. I keep trying to tell her how far away it is, but she digs out the red and white striped pajamas and footed fleece pajamas and tells me that it’s just too exciting. I kind of want to live my life that way, too.
