More Playing with Film
The 35mm camera is always nearby, but I always want the moments to be “just right” because I don’t want to “waste” film. Last week I decided to get over it and just use the film I had on the moments happening in my life right in those moments – last Friday, right before and right after naps.
I struggle more than I’d like to admit with not being able to see the instant gratification of the display of the just-taken pictures. I also hadn’t realized quite how much I use the same function to sometimes (yes, I’m saying this out loud) sort of bribe my kids when I really want to take their pictures. They got really frustrated with letting me take pictures, then asking to see themselves and didn’t understand the concept of not looking right away. It made for a fun lesson, though, and on the second roll Mia really got a kick out of loading the film.
I started out with trying to take the same pictures both on film and digitally, but it was too much to keep up with while prepping and eating lunch and playing with kids. I wound up getting all frustrated because I hadn’t actually loaded the roll of film correctly and I was distracted so I didn’t look at the display to realize that it hadn’t loaded, so I took a bunch of pictures before I realized that I hadn’t actually taken any. Not worth the effort – maybe another day. So I just relaxed and took some pictures. This is them. This is our ordinary.
And just in case you’re counting, there are at least 3 outfit changes that I can see just in these few pictures(4 if you count the added wings?). That’s not even as many as over the course of two full rolls of film over 4 or 5 hours. This girl wears more outfits in one day than I wear in a week!
