From the Weekend
Our weekends are usually relatively slow. One exciting event somewhere in the grand scheme of things, but mostly catching up and relaxing and cleaning and grocery shopping and meal planning and all of the other mundane, normal stuff that make the weekends feel a bit more slow and give some extra time to do things without them feeling so urgent.
This weekend, that was not the case. At all. Friday night we tried to have a family night with just us since we’ve been going for what feels like weeks on end and needed time to re-group and be present together, but we only made it as far as going out for sandwiches before we realized that the mini-golf idea was a disaster/meltdown-city waiting to happen. Not just the kids, we were all just completely done with the week and ready to go home and go to bed.
Saturday was THE DAY. Our big Community Day, complete with a parade and a carnival and fireworks, but still small and rickety old rides and just the right size (You know you want to get on that rusty ferris wheel!) Here are the 2011 and 2010 and 2009 versions of this post – look how little they were! And how I took a bunch of almost the same photos! And how our stroller used to be clean and not filthy! We ate pizza and french fries for dinner and had funnel cake for dessert to celebrate my mother in law’s birthday. We ran into friends and people we knew. The kids danced and danced to the music. We sat in the bleachers and shivered just a bit as the sun went down, we sent John home for sweatshirts, we snuggled with kids on our laps and waited for the fireworks, thankful for friends who were there, too. Thankful that we’ll get to watch these kids grow up together in a community we just keep loving more and more.
Sunday was family brunch for my sister’s birthday and a party to welcome a friend’s sweet little girl. Plus all of the normal meal planning and food prep for the week. Plus some work squeezed in early in the morning and late at night because I have photo editing to get done for friends because I can’t wait to get their special photos into their hands! It was a good one, how was your weekend??
